wow!!! thanks for the share, i know Virgil can groove and he should at least a little.thats amazing stuff he is doing but it almost seems like a magic show. does anyone else think that?

WHenever I listen to his solos, it's sorta like SSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HCRASHSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I dig his groove playing and odd time stuff, and he's obviously coordinated as not many I;ve seen, but his composition isn't. It's all FFF and a blur.

I like drum solos that are like fractals or holograms, you can see different things when you look at it from a different perspective, or like one of those images that you have to stare at before you can make out the 3D image, it springs out at you. That, to me is the mark of a good solo. it can sound different on a different day.

tommy campbell did that well on the Zildjian day video, his composition lent itself to interpretation. Neil peart's solos can be like that, and certainly Cobham's and Simon's. you gotta tell a story.

That is some of the most ridiculous display of technique that I've ever seen. Just phoenominal. Having said that - and I agree with Benrand: That's all it is - a display of thechnique. There's no music happening there at all.

Yes, that particular clip nugget is predominantly about [wicked] chops, which is often the case w Virg & which he DEF has NO shortage of...however, I've heard him groove & do very cool stuff within the groove...keep in mind that his main thing is way-advanced/accelerated prog/fusion-rock, so that's mainly the MO of his grooves, fills, & spice, so...
